Doing this will give you the opportunity to test your tolerance for exposure, along with various treatment options, without making a long term commitment, it would also provide much needed help for a precious feline in need of some temporary assistance.

What to do?
Allergic reactions to cats can come not only in many different types of symptoms, the severity of the reactions can vary a lot as well.
Wanting to own a cat, despite having at some symptoms, is a real dilemma.
Should you get a cat and just treat the symptoms as you go? That is certainly an option, however, sometimes the symptoms can escalate after some months. Sometimes into a level of discomfort that is not tolerable.
Cat Allergies has many variables. Some people are allergic to only longhaired cats, only to a certain colored cat, or only when the windows are closed.
Sometimes the person has a reaction only when in close proximity to the cat, say less than 3 feet, but have no problems if the cat is 5 or more feet away…
